Opening and Closing Ceremonies

Cricket is not just a game of bat or ball or wickets, there is much more to it. With an ongoing tournament, you get to experience thrill, a flow of emotions and action. And with the world cup going on, the heat is on the soaring ends. Basically, world cup cricket schedule tells about numerous venues that will host the one day match, be it between Australia and India, Pakistan and South Africa or Sri Lanka and West Indies.

The 9th ICC Cricket World Cup 2007 in the West Indies will be hosted by nine beautiful Caribbean venues. Venues of ICC Cricket World Cup 2007 in West Indies include Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica, St. Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, and Trinidad and Tobago. The opening ceremony and the opening match of this gala cricket tournament will be hosted by Jamaica, while the final match of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2007 will be played in Barbados.

ICC Cricket World Cup 2007 will see 16 teams competing over a day period. The tournament is divided into four stages, with matches taking place across 8 participating countries, and will officially begin with an Opening Ceremony to be held in a newly built stadium in Trelawny, Jamaica.

The 16 teams will be divided into four groups with the top two teams from each group advancing to the super 8 round.

The eight teams will be playing each other in a "round robin" format; however, the two teams advancing from their respective groups will not play each other again.

The organizers have hired two lighting consultants with impressive credentials to work alongside the local production team.

Though the organizers haven't revealed the names of the consultants they did say one of them has worked at the Olympic Games and the other worked at the American Super Bowl.

The ceremony is to be held at the Trelawny Stadium, which will also host four warm-up matches. All the players and officials of the 16 World Cup teams will attend the ceremony, for which a budget of US$ 2 million has been set aside and which will be televised across the world.

Martin Lewis, the event producer, said that he would advise people to buy tickets early as it was going to be a great show. "They [consultants] will be working with local suppliers, mostly local crew and the production team. It's a lot more to it than just the opening ceremony," Lewis told the Jamaica Gleaner.

Around 1500 performers are expected to be part of the ceremony though most of them will be Jamaicans. "The budget is small so we cannot afford to bring in a lot of bodies, neither to prepare nor to perform," said Lewis.

"The plan, therefore, is to have one overall theme representing the entire region, the theme will be "Caribbean Energy", and it will depict the common culture that binds the region together - the music, the dance, and the heritage of the people."

The Opening Ceremony will be a world class ceremony attended by the players from all 16 participating nations and will be held at the brand new Trelawny Multi-Purpose Stadium in Jamaica. The ceremony will be produced by the Jamaica Local Organising Committee and will be a cultural showcase that demonstrates the vibrancy and talent of the entire region, with participation from all of the nine Host Venues.

The night belonged to every one of the over 1 000 patrons at the closing ceremony as authorities get ready to demolish the ground to make way for a new 27 000-seat stadium for the 2007 Cricket World Cup.

ICC Cricket World Cup West Indies 2007 Inc. (ICC CWC WI 2007) is a wholly owned subsidiary of the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB). It has its own board of directors vested with the responsibilities of planning, managing and executing the ICC Cricket World Cup 2007 in the Caribbean.
