Travel to Barbados

Barbados will play host to the 2007 World Cup final, as well as six "Super Eight" matches and several warm-up matches. The final will be held on Saturday 28 April, 2007.

Barbados is an independent island nation in the western Atlantic Ocean, just to the east of the Caribbean Sea, at roughly 13° N and 59° W. Located fairly close to South America, Barbados is around 434 kilometres (270 miles) northeast of Venezuela.

The closest island neighbours to Barbados are Saint Lucia and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines to the west, Trinidad and Tobago to the south, and Grenada to the south-west. Barbados is part of the Lesser Antilles.



Barbados is the eastern most Caribbean island which is one million years old. The island, first occupied by the British in 1627, gained full independence in 1966. It is now a cosmopolitan island with much prosperity.

This beautiful island is a popular tourist destination with many tropical gardens and lovely homes. It is also home to many historical and architectural buildings and adventures which cannot be experienced in any other island.

Tourists can also avail of the various shopping experiences available. The various shops that sell all types of articles such as craft, clothing, jewellery and electronic and watches provide the products of branded companies at competitive rates. The island is also famous for the various unique festivals held every year. The cultural, spiritual and artistic festivals held here draw in millions of tourists from all parts of the world.



There are many options to travel to and from Barbados. Grantley Adams International Airport is the main gateway to the island. Surrounded by water, it can also be accessed by cruise ships. The island also provides many public transport facilities for its people.
