Travel to Jamaica

The cricket crazy Jamaica is one of the nine host venues for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2007 in the West Indies. Jamaica is an island country in the Caribbean Sea south of Cuba. Kingston is the capital and the largest city. Jamaica has a mountainous backbone that extends across the island from the west and rises to the Blue Mts. in the east.

Jamaica is an island nation of the Greater Antilles, 240 kilometres (150 mi) in length and as much as 85 kilometres (50 mi) in width situated in the Caribbean Sea. It is 635 kilometres (391 mi) east of the Central American mainland, 150 kilometres (93 mi) south of Cuba, and 180 kilometres (112 mi) west of the island of Hispaniola, on which Haiti and the Dominican Republic are situated. Its indigenous Arawakan-speaking Taíno inhabitants named the island Xaymaca, meaning either the "Land of Springs," or the "Land of Wood and Water." Formerly a Spanish possession known as Santiago, then the British West Indies Crown colony of Jamaica. It is the third most populous Anglophone country in the Americas, after the United States and Canada. Jamaica is the largest English speaking island in the Caribbean.

Jamaica is well known for its spectacular mountains, rivers, waterfalls and cactus-strewn savannah plains. It also has many towns and cities with Kingston as its capital. Its fine beaches, hotels and resorts increases the flow of tourists thereby enhancing the reputation of the island among travelers.

Jamaica has a number of historical, natural and cultural attractions that add to its beauty. Millions of visitors visit Jamaica from all parts of the world to experience and enjoy the beauty of this wonderful island.

The island also has countless restaurants that serve the favorites of the Jamaicans as well as the tourists. Its restaurants serve local as well as international cuisine. The spicy and aromatic dishes served on its tables are really mouth-watering. Although fast food is expensive in Jamaica than US and other European countries, it is worth tasting the delicious fare served in Jamaican restaurants.

Being the birthplace of the "all-inclusive" hotel, it has numerous hotels, villas and cottages that provide accommodation to its visitors. There are wide ranges of hotels ranging from cheap to luxurious. The luxury hotels provide all amenities that include food, drink and entertainment for a pre-arranged price.

The shopping streets in Jamaica are always crowded with locals and tourists who come to purchase the unique items available only in Jamaica.
