The ICC Cricket World Cup, generally referred to as the Cricket World Cup, is the premier international championship of men's One-day International (ODI) cricket. The event is organised by the sport's governing body, the International Cricket Council (ICC) and is held every four years. The first Cricket World Cup contest was organised in England in 1975. A Women's Cricket World Cup is also held every four years; the first Women's World Cup was held in 1973.




The most recent Cricket World Cup was held between 9 February and 24 March 2003, in Southern Africa, where Australia were crowned champions after winning the final against India. The next tournament will be held in the West Indies in 2007, which will be played between 16 teams. The 16 participating teams in the 9th ICC Cricket World Cup comprise of 11 teams with One-day International (ODI) status, and 5 teams qualified via the 2005 ICC Trophy. All 16 teams are divided into 4 groups- Group A , Group B, Group C, and Group D. Each group has 4 teams, consisiting of two high ranking teams and two low ranking teams, with atleast one of the five ICC qualifiers. Bermuda cricket team is the only new entrant in the 2007 Cricket World Cup, while Canada, Scotland and the Nertherlands have participated in the earlier World Cup tournaments.
